How the Other Lives

Image
Update Hello again, I know it has been a century since I posted on here, I have been in a whirlwind of lifestyle changes that have caused me to lose priority for something I genuinely enjoy; writing. I decided to pick this back up as a form of procrastination against what I should be doing (which is technically working, but I am procrastinating against that with doing university dissertation work).  Lots have happened. A short but quick update; University of Brighton (the SU specifically) have plugged a fee onto societies, making my Youth Stop Aids emerging society fall flat on its face. I have decided to preoccupy myself with local communities rather than the University and direct my efforts to something that matters and doesn't cost a fee. With that in mind, I did manage to leave the society winning the established 'Society of the Year' award... which is ironic considering they then shut us down. I am continuing to work part-time as a sub-par reservationi...

Youth Stop AIDS Speaker Tour 2018!

Image
A HUGE Happy New Year! 2018 is a big year for Youth Stop AIDS, we plan to demand extra funding from DFID for AIDS medication and education in February, as well as bombard the Amsterdam Government meeting with all things powerful and youth-led to make sure our MPs are saying the right things in aspect to funding for HIV/AIDS.   With this in mind and more, the year kicked off to a great start, as a society in Brighton we achieved our developing status award, which was a challenge considering it was a brand new society in a very naive area (believe it or not). We also signed on new members at the Brighton SU Refresher's Fair (go us!). Kennedy, 25 from Kenya. In February it started with the Speaker Tour Event! A fantastic opportunity where selected speakers travel all over the country in a month speaking at various events about their own personal stories. On the 7th February, it landed in Brighton. A great chance for the society to get it's first official event, and ...

Curiousity killed the Cat.

Hello friends! I have been at university for nearly a month now, I honestly do not know where the time has gone, but now I am doing my first assignment! (Way too soon!) It is very surreal to be studying again after three years off. Firstly I have completing forgotten how to function like a normal young adult, secondly I realised how much I enjoyed spending time with adults much older than me (at least those with less drama and can hold their alcohol without looking like a blubbery baby), and thirdly I didn't know just how much I really love learning. I am studying environment and media studies. In a sense it means I basically study mediums and then look at our earth and try to fit it all in and make sense of it. Harder than it looks I promise! A majority of university students seem to take what they have learnt and do what they are told, whether its to sit an exam, what to write, what to think etc. I can't do this. I can't comprehend this lifestyle. For example; i...

My First Week in the Jungle...

Image
Hellooooo friends! It's been one crazy month! An update on this bizarre and incredibly long September; Mother and I switching puddings.. 9th -  MY BIRTHDAY!! 21, finally can rent a car...and drink alcohol worldwide (yippee...) Celebrated with my mother dearest doing some retail therapy, then dinner at my favourite restaurant with the family. Ended with a slight make out session in my car with an old friend of mine...who has a girlfriend. Very awkward.. Work collegues.. 10th- NIGHT OUT! So I rarely venture into the depths of basement clubs, pounding bass and drunken sluts, but it was a work party, and my birthday night out, which called for nothing less than an absolute abomination of alcohol and drunken craziness... Long story short, I made out with my night supervisor...and my front of house manager. Good adulting on my part. Ended with my head in a toilet bowl passed out. 11th- WORST DAY EVER! I think there is a sudden shock when you go from being 18,19,20 t...

What to see in Brighton!

Image
It has been a few months since I moved to this wonderful city. My flat is situation just by the sea, which means I have the luxury of waking up to the waves and seagulls each morning. It also means I know places in Brighton you should definitely see when visiting.   1. The Pier A very obvious choice when seeing Brighton, bring a tenner, get yourself a pot of 10ps and go wild in the arcade, maybe go on a few rides overlooking the sea, or grab some donuts and take a few pictures by the portraits. Even if it seems to tourist-y for you I highly recommend you see it at least once, the best time is at dusk, the lights are on and it looks incredible.   I saw the pier when my brother came to visit, he had so much fun on the arcades, and it is surprisingly easy to win hundreds of tickets and get yourself a Brighton postcard or shot glass at the ticket exchange! 2. JB's American Diner Winner winner chicken dinner. JB's is brilliant for that ...

Festive Feels!

Image
Hello everyone! Air strikes in Syria. I hope all is well with you all and are diving into the festive spirit, before I begin with my blog post this week, I wanted to mention something that cannot be ignored; the air strike plans on Syria. I hope you can agree with me saying that David Cameron, for those who don't know is our UK Priminister, gave the go ahead on us to start bombing Syria, so joining in on what have killed so many. Despite the fact that weeks earlier the same man discussed how bombing Syria would only 'increase terrorism'. So this is ridiculous! I am sure you can agree, this is clearly a bad idea, a horrific idea. We have already spent so much time and money investing in the refugees to come to the UK, to help them, and what do we do to help more? Just go ahead and bomb the place. It's disgusting. Some days I wish I had my say in parliament, or more so, I wish young people did. We are the forefront to the future so why are we letting upper class sno...

Christmas Crazy

Image
Yes it is that time of year! The weather gets colder, coats appear, the John Lewis advert comes on TV and everyone is excited about what advent calendar to get for December. I'm aware it's still November but I believe that because there aren't any holidays in November that gives us justice to start Christmas early! If it wasn't for Halloween we would probably start Christmas when the first leaf falls off a tree! I love Christmas. I love the decor, I love having special bedsheets, I love a reason for comfort food, I ADORE wearing more clothes, the leggings, jumper and Timberland boots make another appearance this year. I love getting people gifts more than anything else! I like November as my month to save up money before I go crazy with gifts in December. That has to be my favourite part of Christmas-the giving. I don't mind as such not receiving anything, but the look on someone's face when they open something they've always wanted brings enough joy fo...

Moved Away From Home!

Image
On the farm with my siblings! Since I was young I never strayed far from the tree, always been close to my family, grew up with the same faces around me. When I was sixteen I moved next door to my parents, at 18 I moved opposite my parents. So never been far! A month ago I moved south, way south, to the big beautiful city of Brighton! I couldn't be more of a country girl, fields and dog walking were more of my thing than cars and clubbing. Yet I needed a change, I'm twenty and it was time to see what else there is! So I packed up my life and moved into an incredibly small, incredibly expensive two bedroom flat overlooking the sea. Modern and stunning this south facing flat was everything I wanted. I did originally have a plan: 1. Move in to the perfect flat 2. Create the perfect bedroom 3. Regain a form of social life 4. Following 3. find a way to put a cap on your social anxiety. 5. Find a job I can enjoy 6. Apply to University 7. Go on a real date! First da...
